Gluten-Free Tuscany

When thinking of Italy, the first thought that comes to many people’s minds are pasta and pizza. I mean, they’re not wrong ;-) As a person with celiac disease or gluten-intolerance this might sound scary, but I promise you: It’s not!

Italy is actually one of the best and safest countries around the world for people who follow a gluten-free diet. According to the AIC (Italian celiac association), about 1% of Italians are diagnosed with celiac disease, and most Italians are fully aware of what it is, especially restaurant owners, chefs, and waiters. As a consequence, you will find countless gluten-free options while you are travelling Italy.

Tuscany is no different, and Leonie is actually celiac herself. Both her and Nicco are foodies and go out for dinner several times a week. Therefore, they are experts when it comes to the best gluten-free options in and around Val d’Orcia, in Siena, and in Florence. Here, in the immediate area between Pienza and San Quirico d’Orcia there are two AIC-certified (100% cross-contamination free) restaurants, and most restaurants in the area have gluten-free options.

Staying with us, we can of course provide you with gluten-free breakfast essentials, and we are able to customise the welcome basket (if you choose to take it) to make it fully gluten-free. Please let us know before your arrival!
